Product Information
Provides daylight equivalent task lighting for inspection of cleaned instruments prior to processing in a sterilisation cycle.
This lamp is mains powered.
1. The test is perfomed on a batch of instruments that have just been cleaned manually, or processed through either an ultrasonic cleaner or washer disinfector. The test is done before they are placed in the steriliser. The reason why a visual inspection is required before sterilisation is to make sure that the cleaning process is removing staining and debris. |
2. When inspecting your instruments you need to pay close attention to areas where debris may build up. Recesses, hinges and corners are places where debris may form. Instruments should be visually clean, have no corrosion, and checked for signs of damage. |
3. If instruments are not visually clean then they should be reprocessed through the cleaning stage. If instruments are continually presented as contaminated then this may indicate a problem with the cleaning method. |
4. Record the result and that you have performed the visual inspection in the daily record section of the log book. |
Reasons Why the Test May Fail
Should the test fail then the instruments should be reprocessed through the cleaning stage of the decontamination process. If the test fails continuously, a diagnosis of the method of cleaning is required.
The compliance team at Isopharm is also available to discuss the test and test method.
Diagnosing the Method of Cleaning
- If instruments are manually cleaned, fail results may be as a result of the method of cleaning. If manual cleaning is the only method used prior to sterilisation then this needs to be performed correctly.
- Instruments that are failing the visual inspection after processing through an automated cycle such as an ultrasonic cleaner or washer disinfector can be a result of the wrong detergent being used. The type of detergent is usually recommended by the manufacturer so check your machine manual. Whatever detergent you use, make sure it is used in accordance with chemical manufacturer’s instructions.
